436 word SF story called OrgTech

Mike opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling for a moment, then turned to look at the figure standing framed in the doorway. "'Morning Ship!" he said. "If it is morning."

"It is," said the woman as she walked into the room. "The terminator has crossed the east coast of your country."

Mike sat up and scowled. "Blagh. Too early. Why did you wake me?"

"Why do you sleep? Your body has no need of it."

"Must be a habit," said Mike as he swung his legs around and stood. "Something left over from when carbon-based life-form Mike was replaced with OrgTech life-form Mike."

Ship hung her head. "I am sorry. But you were dying-"

"I know," said Mike softly. He crossed the room and gave her a quick hug. "I still don't know how to thank you." He stepped back and ran a hand along the naked arm of his companion. "You've done a good job with this body! It feels real. Have you chosen a name yet?"

"Does having a physical presence make it easier to talk?"

"You bet!" exclaimed Mike with feeling. "It's heaps better than speaking to a disembodied voice."

Ship frowned slightly, then nodded. "Heaps. I understand."

"You pulled that from my mind, didn't you?"

"Yes. It would be easier to communicate if you would let me in-"

"No! Sorry, but we've discussed this. It makes me feel less human."

"But you are still human down to a cellular level," explained Ship. "I saw your friend Teddy while you were sleeping. She suggested a test to see if you have changed at all."

Mike blinked in surprise. "Did she? What is the test?" Ship opened her suit, exposing her naked body to Mike. He gaped at her. "Uh- wh- what-?" he stammered as his eyes dragged themselves down. Ship really had done a good job of copying the human female. "Uh- do you have all the- uh- you know- bits?" he asked at last.

"Have sex with me," said Ship calmly. "Right now." She stared at him for a moment, then nodded and closed her suit. "Teddy was right. Your thoughts exploded and became a tangled mess." Mike gaped as Ship peered at his cheeks. "I do not detect any of this 'blushing' she described. I think that circuit may not have survived the transfer."

"Good!" shouted Mike as he took a step back. "What else did Teddy tell you?"

"That you would be embarrassed. Are you embarrassed?"

"YES! Bloody hell what do you think?"

"I think it s amazing Humans know what each other is thinking without any mind link."
