Eminem thwarts Weird Al parody
Eminem has refused to let comedy singer Weird Al Yankovic shoot a video for his new song, Couch Potato, a parody of the rapper's Lose Yourself.
Yankovic said: "It's very disappointing. This could have been my best video ever."
But a spokesman for Eminem said Lose Yourself was "an important personal piece of music for him, a piece of art".
Artists including Michael Jackson have allowed Yankovic to tackle their videos in their past. "

I think he tales himself too seriously. I also think he's an asshole.

Yeah, I'd say that he takes himself way to seriously, and he's a prick to boot.

Most likely, he's afraid of falling victim to Weird Al Syndrome, where, a few years down the road, more people remember the parody than the original song -- or people ONLY remember the original song because of the parody.

Better by far to fade into oblivion.

Well, either he or his lawyers/agents/producers/handlers/people who think for him has signed a contract to let Al release the parody song. They're blocking Al from making the video, but at this point, they probably can't block the song itself - even if M&M really, really wants to. Heh. Or he could do the Snoopy Doggie thing, and say afterwards how horrible Al is, and how he was taken advantage of, & etc. :D

Eminem is just the latest flavor of shock your parents music. In my day it was punk rock, followed by Black Metal (Satanic). How anyone could take Cronos of Venom seriously boggles the mind. I must profess that I am guilty of owning the Venom box set. I got it for 10 dollars in mint condition from a shop.

Eminem is someone who has no sense of humor about his work which is silly enough. But when he tries to defend songs he has written and released about killing his former wife and his mother by saying they have no basis in reality, his credibility takes a nosedive (IMO).

And "Lose Yourself" is NOT that great a song. The Beasties can and do run rings around him as far as I am concerned. As can Weird Al:).Sabotage off of Ill Communication is better than that so called bit of fart.

Thank goodness Eminem isn't trying to do something like a cover of "I'll Be Mellow When I'm Dead." That is a truly great song which he does not deserve to listen to, much less sing:D.
