After reading Bill Thompson's article on the BBC, I started thinking. I've been using computers since the early 80s, networking, repairing, upgrading, installing and all the others things techos do. I have been up to my armpits in technology for nearly 20 years.

What do I have at home? What technology do I actually own? I have a P2-333 with 300mb RAM. It's on a thin ethernet bus network with my brother's PC, and is connected to a 5 year old scanner.

Last month I bought a DVD player. I have a mobile phone: a Nokia 3110. I've sent 3 SMS messages with it. (checks) 4. No one rings in.

That's about it. No laptops, wireless networks, big tellys, phones that transmits photos, digital cameras, webcams, usb hubs, usb anything, CD burners.

And I own everything I need to have.

I don't think you can apply for true geek status, sadly :)

You missed one!

"Too Much Technology" is, of course, a self-correcting condition. I don't even have a mobile phone, let alone one that can take pictures or surf the web.

If you posted your cell #, I bet you'd get more SMS messages... *grin*

Dad gave me that phone because he didn't like that he had 2 and I had none, and there were periods when I was uncontactable.

Which was the whole reason of not having a phone.

0414808507 don't forget the country code, or expect an answer. I'm really bad at that.

Considering that I'm on the other freakin' side of the WORLD from you,
I'll wager than virtually ANY call I make will be at a time you're asleep,
or not in the mood to flap your face a bit.

Do you at least have voicemail on your cellphone?

(evil grin!)

Voicemail? Probably. I haven't really looked at that. You could send an SMS though. 8)

And what, pray tell, is an "SMS"?
