More hate mail
6 March 2003 22:04Apparently I am supposed to have kept the bat alive. I should have kept it in a cage, or given it to the zoo or something. I'm tired of explaining why I did this, anon. hotmail emailer, so read my journal to find out why I euthanase animals and birds. Are you the one who accused me of murdering the pigeon?

Have you considered modifying your journal so that you don't have to deal with the A. Nony Mouses of no idea and limited imaginations?
Just a thought.
(Hi, I "friended" you a few days back but you were obviously quite busy at the time... I hope you do not mind.)

Date: 6 Mar 2003 04:16 (UTC)Sorry, colour me terminally curious - you are the first bat rescuer I have come across. I have only met a dog rescuer before (different set of problems, minus wings and the bites are much bigger).

Date: 6 Mar 2003 04:12 (UTC)Otherwise, just sit in the knowledge that most of us ache for you and with you when you have to euthanase. Life stinks sometimes.

Date: 6 Mar 2003 05:17 (UTC)I hope you can ignore the letter and instead hear the words of us who support you -- our shared joy in your successful rescues, and our shared sadness when you have to euthanize an animal.
I respect the hell out of you, Den. I couldn't do what you do; I couldn't deal with not being able to save them all. You're a lot stronger than I am. And if we're ever in the same city at the same time, I would be pleased and honored to buy you dinner and a beer.

Date: 6 Mar 2003 05:40 (UTC)- they know you and you know them (obviously, since you only post this information to limited places)
- they won't tell you who they are and hide behind a semi-anonymous e-mail monnicker that they probably signed up for and used just for this purpose
- given the same situatin themselves, they wouldn't be able to do the humane thing; they would rather gratify their own morals and allow an animal to suffer
People like that are beneath your notice. I know the comments sting, because when you euthanize an animal there's always that lingering doubt about whether or not you did absolutely everything possible for the animal first. However, that's also what makes you a good rescuer. Australia, in particular, isn't kind to crippled animals. You did the right thing and the hatemongering cowards should just fuck off.

Date: 6 Mar 2003 13:00 (UTC)That said, I'm very sorry this person attacked you. It was entirely uncalled for. I'm just a random websurfer without a livejournal who happened to find your journal. I don't even work here.
