Apparently I am supposed to have kept the bat alive. I should have kept it in a cage, or given it to the zoo or something. I'm tired of explaining why I did this, anon. hotmail emailer, so read my journal to find out why I euthanase animals and birds. Are you the one who accused me of murdering the pigeon?

*hug*

Some people just don't think things through before they shoot their mouths off.

Have you considered modifying your journal so that you don't have to deal with the A. Nony Mouses of no idea and limited imaginations?

Just a thought.

(Hi, I "friended" you a few days back but you were obviously quite busy at the time... I hope you do not mind.)

This was sent as an email. They don't post comments like that here.

Hiya!

Have you had word on the lyssavirus (spell?) yet?

Sorry, colour me terminally curious - you are the first bat rescuer I have come across. I have only met a dog rescuer before (different set of problems, minus wings and the bites are much bigger).

Block their ISP. 8)

Otherwise, just sit in the knowledge that most of us ache for you and with you when you have to euthanase. Life stinks sometimes.

Chances are, the dipshit doesn't even care about the bat or the pigeon or anything, and is one of those people who can only find joy in the cheap power to "affect" strangers. "Har har, I toyed with the emotions of some guy in Australia, with almost no effort. Now I'm going to disrupt an online game and irritate about a dozen people for two hours. And they won't be able to stop me! It's like being a god."

I repeat my comment from the pigeon.. fuck dicwad@hotmail with a splintery pole. We all know how much euthanasing ANY animal upsets you, and that it is always a last resort.

Death is part of life. Some people just get weird and stupid about it, stemming from all kinds of issues that they're not nearly interesting or important enough to be worth speculating on. It's sad that someone would try and get to you with such idiotic methods, but I'd be more depressed about what it says about some members of our species than anything else--anyone worth knowing knows that you did the right, and only, thing.

Some people live for that sort of thing. The fact that they said you should give it to the zoo shows their obvious lack of brain, and total trolldom. Anyone who bothers to read knows you deal with zoo folks from time to time. Evil kangaroos are nothing to fool with! In addition, many wild things pine and die when made captive by injury. Clearly this person doesn't give a crap about that, just getting a rise out of you.
Got any email filters handy?

Well, fleep. I'm sorry some beavis (I won't call zir an asshole, as that would be unfair to assholes, which serve a useful purpose in life) decided to get zir jollies by sending you hate mail.

I hope you can ignore the letter and instead hear the words of us who support you -- our shared joy in your successful rescues, and our shared sadness when you have to euthanize an animal.

I respect the hell out of you, Den. I couldn't do what you do; I couldn't deal with not being able to save them all. You're a lot stronger than I am. And if we're ever in the same city at the same time, I would be pleased and honored to buy you dinner and a beer.

You shouldn't let cowards bother you so. The people who leave that kind of e-mail are cowards for several reasons:

- they know you and you know them (obviously, since you only post this information to limited places)

- they won't tell you who they are and hide behind a semi-anonymous e-mail monnicker that they probably signed up for and used just for this purpose

- given the same situatin themselves, they wouldn't be able to do the humane thing; they would rather gratify their own morals and allow an animal to suffer

People like that are beneath your notice. I know the comments sting, because when you euthanize an animal there's always that lingering doubt about whether or not you did absolutely everything possible for the animal first. However, that's also what makes you a good rescuer. Australia, in particular, isn't kind to crippled animals. You did the right thing and the hatemongering cowards should just fuck off.

Maybe Mr. Anon hotmailer should go into animal rescue and learn what it is really like. Until he's done that, he ought to shut his damn mouth. Then again, that night be bad as he would probably do more harm than good attempting to save every animal no matter how brutally injured.

I would not assume that the person who flamed you had no feeling for the bat, as some commenters did. Some people cannot weigh the choices and choose the lesser of two evils. They are paralyzed, because anything they do causes pain, so they do nothing, even if that leads to more suffering in the long run. The fact that this was hard for you is only proof that you are evil, in their minds; why else would you do something you knew at heart was wrong?

That said, I'm very sorry this person attacked you. It was entirely uncalled for. I'm just a random websurfer without a livejournal who happened to find your journal. I don't even work here.
