It is easy for us to misunderstand the significance of a lost digit to a bat.

In this case, it's a little bit like a busted and missing portion of wing spar to the Columbia. A lot of wing membrane tissue gone as well?

At first I thought the bone-ends I could see were the remains of the missing ends, but they're actually part of the bone that makes up the main wing support bone. Imagin a plane's leading edge and associated structures of a wing. That's the bones I can see exposed to the air.

You have obviously gained much experience here; any chance of dermal tissue growing around and enclosing the exposed area?
