Polly is back from the Vet's. She's been prodded, vaccinated, microchipped, and "fixed." No puppies for poor Polly. What this area doesn't need is more dogs and I'll spare the RSPCA from doing more dirty work than they have to. I really feel sorry for the vets there. They must go numb.

So Polly is feeling very sorry for herself and I don't blame her. She actually growled at Scruffy when I put the food out. She ate a little then had a lie-down. Poor pup.

I wish the microchipping were more readily available over here; I'd have all my pets done in a heartbeat. Don't feel guilty about having her fixed; it really is better for the animal population in general and for that particular animal specifically. You won't have to worry about her developing mammary cysts that could lead to cancer or ending up with a septic uterus. And no matter how hard you try, you can't watch an unfixed dog forever. Sooner or later, there would have been an accident.

Polly has my sympathy (for having had the surgery and the poking and prodding and so forth) -- please, when she's feeling better, give her a skritch for me?

She also has my congratulations, for having a responsible person who makes sure she gets the poking and prodding (and surgery) she needs, even if she doesn't really want it.

Aww

But at least dogs handle it better than cats do.

With dogs, they will eventually accept their fate and get over it.

With cats, they will lay there and look at you like, "Look at me... just LOOK at me! Look what you did to me!" and hold a secret but smoldring grudge for the rest of their lives :P

Another case in point, when Blackfang was moving out this weekend, I shut the cat up in the bathroom so he wouldn't leave the house (he's an inside cat) and in vengeance he turned a roll of toilet paper into confetti and covered every square inch of the bathroom with its shredded remains. Very vindictive little bastard :P

Poor Polly. But it's a Good Thing to get her spayed.

But...poor Polly.

It's a small inert capsule inserted under the skin. When it's hit by a certain redio frequency it returns a serial number. We pay the council a once-only registration fee and the dog is registered for life.
