I just discovered that platypus young are called puggles too, just like echidna young.

It must be a monotreme thing.

Here I was thinking, "Platypus. Cute." and then I suddenly realized that it's sitting in someone's *hand*! It's a tiny platypus; presumably a platypus puggle. How neat!

There's a young 4 month old one just going on show now in the zoo at Sydney. He's the 4th paltypus born in captivity. When in captivity these animals make Pandas look like randy sex machines.

On t'other hand, given how vicious all the other cuddly-looking things in Australia seem to be, I gotta ask--has anyone been mauled recently by platypi? Are they, too, evil? I know they've got the little poison spurs on the males...

I don't recall anyone ever being mauled by a platypus, and if they were they'd be too embarrassed to admit it.

Echidna puggles are increadibly cute and cuddly right up to the moment they start growing their spines. I've never seen a platypuggle, and have rarely seen a wild platypus.

In a 1939 Nat. Geographic there's a bit about a fisherman that was trying to get a platypus out of his nets and got spurred. His arm swoll to twice it's normal size and he was sick as heck for a week.

I've got a stuffie that's, apparently, a puggle. Hot pink beanbag creature, sort of like a naked mole with button eyes and fishing line whiskers. No claws or tail or ears. My Oma gave it to me for, like, my third or fourth birthday. I'll have to get a picture of poor old Puggle :)

Wow. Someone else who actually knows what I'm talking about. These are the ones that come in velveteen bags with a little grommet in the side for them to peek out through, right?

Yep, except for the Fruggle which a green froggy thing, it came in a big plastic screw top jarm with a straw so it could breathe..

as a side note, they were invented/designed by a man called Tony Barber who was the guitarist for the original Aztecs (ie Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs)

I would love to get some puggles, either new or second hand. If anyone has any information about them, could you please reply to this post? Thanks very much. I have 3 puggles. Yes, they do come in those bags. All my puggles came in those bags.

The only puggle I had was orphaned when her mum was run over. I don't know where you'd find the puggles you want.
