As Hopeforyou mentions below, here in Aus the conservative party is called The Liberal Party, while the liberal party is called The Labor Party. We have a Democrate Party but no Republicans.

Because "liberals" are "conservative" in Australia, and "liberals" are on the opposite end of the spectrum to "conservatives" in America, I've taken to calling people with such ideologies "progressive". I mentioned this to someone else, and was educated on the fact that some countries have a Progressive Party, which left me shaking my head and grasping for new terminology.
