I spoke too soon. Tonight I picked up a young broadnosed bat with concussion. She is the same size and age as Donk from last year, so I think she's a Learner Flyer, just got her wings and still a bit wobbly out there.

I think I'll name her Florence, after the cheif engineer in the comic Freefall.

=) Bats!

I'm just glad they've got you to care for them. If I spoke bat, I'd tell Florence she's got a great teacher.

Over here she'd be a cricket bat.

During the televised night games they light the fields with huge light-towers. I can't help thinking "Look at all the food they're attracting!"

They seem to problems with windows. I don't know if it's the sonar-reflecting quality of the glass, or that the bat can see through it and thinks it's a hole in the wall. Or maybe all the young bats with their new licenses play games. "Fly through that hole! I dare ya!"

That's interesting, because the odd bird brains itself on my parents living room window all the time. Usually they land in the rock garden and display the reaction of any creature landing a blow to the conk.
And the look of "what the heck hit me and where is it *now?". A lot of the time it's begger songbirds like robins or doves, although I witnessed a sparrow do it once.
