Another strong Belgian ale, in what looks like a bubbly wine bottle. This is my last Belgian beer. I start working westward next.

La Chouffe La Chouffe

Pours a slightly cloudy gold, with a fluffy white head that fades to thick lace. There is quite a lot of carbonation.

First Sip: A mild malt with a lot of sweet fruitiness. Almost no hops in the first tasting but there is a dry after-taste with hops lurking in the background. Quite a lot of carbonation tingle on the tongue. Medium mouth-feel. The alcohol is well hidden, but I can feel the warmth in my belly.

This is a very nice beer. A little more malt and a little less sweet and it would be a very yummy beer. It is highly drinkable and goes down easily. This is a problem since it's 8% alcohol and doesn't really taste it, so it's too easy to drink fast. And as it warms in the glass, it gets even easier to drink. I need to eat as I drink this, if only to slow me down and stop me from drinking it like lemonade.

Whoa! Strong vintage cheddar* and this! Brilliant!
