Around The World In 80 Beers Episode 71: Abbaye De Floreffe Prima Melior

The bottle is corked like a bottle of bubbly wine. I resisted the temptation to pop the cork. I am couth.



Pours a very dark, almost opaque reddish brown. The tan head is bubbly and takes ages to fade away.

First sip: Sweet with roasted malt flavours. There is a faint chocolate after-taste. No hops to speak of. Very little of the strong alcohol shows through the tasting but I can feel it warming my stomach. Medium mouth-feel with a lot of carbonation tingle on the tongue.

Oooh this is a yummy beer! Nice and malty, a little too sweet but very drinkable. I would have preferred a smaller bottle because I can't push in the cork to reseal it. It's interesting that they cork it in the style of a bottle of bubbley wine, with a real cork tied to the neck. A bottle this sized needs someone to share it with; I don't think I can drink 4.7 standard drinks fast enough to prevent flattening.
