Quest, Episode 16. Quilmes Cerzeza

A brief trip to Argentina. I can't find any other South American beers.



Quilmes pours a large head that breaks down to big bubbles and fades away quickly. The lager is a very pale, clear gold. There looks to be a lot of carbonation.

First sip: A bit bland, even for a lager. Slightly malty, with a faint mix of sweet and sour. Not much hops at all. It's a little watery. The best description is that it tastes like... beer.

Quilmes Cerzeza is more interesting than Chang. but only a little. It's another for the Meh file as a beer on its own. However, if you were eating and wanted something to wash it down then this would be the beer. It wouldn't overwhelm a mild food taste with beeryness.

The Quest For Beer, Episode 17: Spitfire.

Labelled as "Spitfire - The Bottle Of Britain" brewed to celebrate the Battle Of Britain in the skies over Kent.



There was a faint hiss of gas as the lid came off. The beer pours a clear dark amber with a creamy tan head that fades away very slowly.

First sip: Very mild malt, slight tang of fizz on the tongue, with a mid-strength hops that lingers for ages. A nice full mouth feel with a crispy dryness afterwards. The hops does dominate everything. Nice beery burp, though.

Like most English beers and ales, this one tastes better when it gets above refrigerated temperatures. Spitfire is a nice Pale Ale - one for sipping slowly in the shade on a hot day as you read a good book and wait for fish or marinaded chickens to finish smoking in the Weber.

Cheese! A strong vintage cheese really works with this beer.
