Knappstein Reserve Lager

Pours a clear very pale yellow with a small/medium head that lasts for ages. lots of carbonation visible.

First sip: Whoa. I mean, mild malt and toffee sweetness, with quite a lot of fruit, almost grapey, flavours. Hops is mild but very long lasting and can be tasted from sip to long after the swallow. Medium mouth-feel with a nice carbonation tingle on the tongue.

If it weren't for the hops, I'd think this was a fizzy riesling. It is extremely drinkable and goes down very easily. This can be a problem - at 5.6% this can result in wobbly boots. A very yummy beer!

Ohhh this sounds good, especially for a lager!

Wobbly boots @ 5.6? Could be! :)

Most of the IPAs I seem to favor are in the 7-9% range, or about half of what wine has. That is getting up there for sure, hence I enjoy them mostly with a proper meal and a bit of gab to let things mellow.

Have I mentioned that I discovered Crabbie's brewed ginger beer? It's made in Scotland, and it's 4.7%, which doesn't even give me a buzz unless I guzzle it on an empty stomach. They make it out of fermented sugarcane juice, which is also the base for the Brazilian national beverage cachaça (how do you say "rocket fuel" in Portuguese?). Anyway, Crabbie's has a lovely ginger flavor with a bit of lime and lemon, and it goes wonderfully with Asian food that's also full of ginger. (Of course, it also goes well with a burger.) And that's most of what I know about "beer"...

Real (brewed, alcoholic) ginger beer is very hard to get in the US - even non-alcoholic ginger beer is pretty rare. There are a few Jamaican brands, but at least one of them doesn't have any ginger in it! But a couple of liquor stores vaguely near me sell it, and there's an Australian pub (actually owned and run by a couple of Aussie sheilas, and the food is excellent) near where my grown son lives, and they serve Crabbie's, which he and I both enjoy... so that's where we all go when we visit him and he'd rather go out than cook.

Dammit, now I want to get a bottle of Crabbie's out of the fridge... at 7:45 AM...
