A bit of fizz opening the bottle. This wheat beer pours a cloudy golden orange. The head is a creamy white, clings to the glass, medium in size and fades very slowly.
First sip. Nice! Grainy -- you expect that from a wheat beer -- but the malt is noticeable. Very yeasty, bready, with a fairly strong orange citrus and a faint tingle of hops that fades too fast. The only problem is that all the tastes fade too fast.
Mouth-feel is silky, creamy with a lot of small bubbles making it a little foamy.
This is a yummy beer. Even the beer burp is nice.
I can't think of any meal this would not go with because the rapid taste-fade would not overwhelm the food flavours. Paulaner say it would go well with white sausages or pork. I'll grab a six-pack of this the next time I smoke some pork.
People often serve wheat beers with a slice of lemon. Please, people. Respect the beer! If you need fruit in your beer to make the beer drinkable, then the beer is wrong for you.
I gave Pete a taste of this. He is not a beer drinker. His verdict: "Why can't our beers taste like this?"
