Happy Valentine's Day

Australia didn't do Valentines Day until the mid 80s. I remember growing up in the 60s and being puzzled by the St Valentine's Day references on the American shows and in Peanuts. I'd worked it out by the time I left school in 1979 but we didn't do it. Some time in the mid 80s I remember seeing the first Hallmark cards celebrating Valentine's Day. "Celebrating" is a strange way of putting it. We didn't celebrate it at all until there were cards telling us the celebration was here.

Big Fucking Whoopee, mate, in a big way.

Love the venus flytrap art...or whatever odd sentient plant that is! Yeah, Australia didn't do Halloween, either, while I was there. Has that changed? Maybe that was QLD thing...and NSW paid attention to it?

I'm not celebrating Valentine's Day. One day for loving people? Don't grok. I used to celebrate it by having sex. Now I just love people and have sex with them many different days out of the year. ;-)

Hallowe'en and Valentine's Day are recent inventions. We didn't do Hallowe'en until ET screened here, and once started it gathered momentum.

I kinda loathe Valentine's day -- it strikes me, more than any other holiday, as one that was -created- just to sell stuff to people and to create a market where none was before.

That plant needs a power disintegrator pistol. It reminds me of Marvin The Martian.
