Synoptic Situation: 6:00 pm EST Monday
A strong cold front is moving through western New South Wales expected to reach the far south coast later Monday evening and Sydney early Tuesday. Strong to gale force winds, rain and thunderstorms ahead and near the front.

Winds exceeding locally 65 km/h with gusts over 90 km/h.

In Alpine areas above 1900 metres winds are averaging locally over 90 km/h with peak wind gusts exceeding 125 km/h.

Destructive wind gusts likely near thunderstorms.






It's going to be an interesting night.

Ouch. When we had winds like that a few years ago, we ended up with 90+ year old elm trees being trashed (http://www.flickr.com/photos/ataradrac/27683213/in/set-72157602236759710/). Some of them were twisted like corkscrews.

*nod* Here too. Some rather ancient forests were trashed. 400 year old trees were done in. But we'd had heavy rain first that loosened the roots up. Was an ugly year.
