The neck feathers are what gives this ibis its name.

The black feathers are iridescent. They look even better in bright sunlight.

grazed by a passing car. No bone injuries but it's a bit concussed and bruised.

That iridescence is gorgeous. I especially like it in the second photo.

(Astrophyllite feathers! :) )

Wow, and we get excited when we have a raccoon in the back yard!

Does he let you use his bill as a towel rack? To cover his room and board? ;)

[identity profile] dewhitton.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
They only way I can get close is to hold up a towel to hide me as I move forward, then wrap him in the towel to stop him from flapping. Towel rack is right out

I think I know what my new background picture at work will be.

Would you mind if I linked to this entry?

[identity profile] dewhitton.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mind at all!

[identity profile] walkertxkitty.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Such a beautiful bird. Ours are white with bright orange beaks. I love to watch them, they're one of my favorite water birds.

[identity profile] dewhitton.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Our white ones have black heads and beaks, and smooth white neck feathers.

Amazing how much variety there is in birds.

Perfectly normal! And much more sensible than the time my Mum decided to house an injured (and very stressed out) duck in my parents' bedroom of all places. By the time the RSPCA arrived, the carpet was *green*.

thank you for taking care of this small soul

I say this with a Nanday on my head and a Grey in the cage behind me.
Love birds.
Bless you.
