High Dynamic Range. You take 3 or more photos ranging from under-exposed to correct exposure to over-exposed, and mash them together into one photo.

That's HDR and tone mapping for you. Colour and detail that would normally be washed out are preserved.

I use this software: http://www.hdrsoft.com/ The new Photoshop can do HDR photos too.

Impressive! The colours are vivid but there's a slight double image in the full-size version.

That's because the camera was hand-held. Even the image stabilizing lens couldn't stop all the movement over three photos.
