And in other news

"Scientists examining the platypus genome have discovered that an animal with the beak of a duck, the eyes of a mole, the tail of a beaver and lays eggs like a reptile, is a lot stranger than previously thought."
Sandy Toksvig, The News Quiz, BBC Radio 4.

My copy of Nurk shipped yesterday.

Is it only the Genome that is strange ??
The rest is normal for an Australian animal
I think what is strange about the Platypus is the lack of Venom

I think you'll find the male has a venomous spur. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platypus)

There are no cute, cuddly Australian animals. They all kill.

The Numbat is pretty cute. Till it opens it's mouth. My class was watching their clip in Life of Mammals. There was an audible 'AwwwwwAHHHHHHH!' Those tongues are freaky!
