A Drive Through The Solar System

This is probably the geekiest thing I have ever done.

See the planets!

Follow the planets!

Huh. Neat!

Does your camera put the GPS coordinates on the photo or did you do that after?

[identity profile] dewhitton.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I took photos of the GPS when I photographed the signs and photoshopped them in later.

At this scale, where is Alpha Centauri?

618,802 miles away, roughly... or about 3 times further away than the moon.

Gives you an idea of scale, no?

It took me 3 hours to travel from Pluto to the Sun. How fast was that?

3.4 C we did this calculation before.

I couldn't remember the numbers.

And I didn't notice any blue or red shift.

Your map markers appear to be oddly clustered.

I think it's by road distance; the crow-flies distance is probably not correct.

[identity profile] dewhitton.livejournal.com 2008-03-25 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, road distance rather than straight line distance.Mars, Earth Venus and Mercury are all in the last 5km of travel.
