This magpie came to me as an orphan. I raised him by hand and released him several weeks ago. He still hangs around looking for handouts.

Our magpies don't look like yours...I don't particularly care for mine since they're rather vicious (I've done NOTHING to deserve a pecking and the danged thing attacks whenever I leave the house).

The pee-wees, as always, are my favorite.

And how on earth did you get that shot of the sun halo without overexposure? I've tried but it always flares out.

I wanna know, too. What kind of filter does it require?

Have the best

The shutter speed goes up to 1/8000th. You can see a little bit of lens flare on the upper-left corner, just outside the halo.

standard skylight filter, 1/8000th shutter speed. There is still a little bit of flare.

Our magpies attack during nesting season, but they have really good memories. If you're good to them when they nest in your yard, they see you as part of their territory and don't attack ie they own you.

On the other hand, if someone in, say, a white shirt attacks them, they remember that and everyone in white shirts is seen as a threat. This is why kids in school uniforms are always attacked.

I don't know what this guy's deal is. He's alone, as far as I can tell, and just plain ornery. No pattern to the attacks; he'll go after Simtra too. There's no specific place for them either; he starts as soon as I come out the door and very often will chase the truck if I leave, throwing things at it.
