Aargh

[livejournal.com profile] tatterdemalion, your old PC died at last. It decided it was an AMD550mhz, and C Drive was an NT partition.

When I was in Harvey Norman yesterday I noticed they had a pile of old ex-Gov P4s for sale (Centrelink are actually good for something). That's what I have now: P4 1.8GHz, 512MB Ram. It comes with a 20GB HDD as C:, so I dumped my old drives into the new chassis. XP Home, though. Blagh.

I just hope I can recover E: which was a partition on the same drive as C:. That holds all my music, stories, renders and Bugs.

(Later)
I shall now perform the Recovered Art Happy Dance.

Sounds like the patient survived the surgery, Doc!

It would appear that I have recovered all my email and Firefox bookmarks as well.

I didn't know you knew [livejournal.com profile] tatterdemalion!

Hey, has [livejournal.com profile] hopeforyou made it out your way? I haven't heard from her for days.

Oh, and she might want to know this (http://www.smh.com.au/news/environment/wild-seas-close-beaches/2007/12/31/1198949719026.html). =)

Cheers.

Her internet access is really limited, especially outside major cities. [livejournal.com profile] hopeforyou and the others spent Saturday at the zoo, (I was on rescue phones so I couldn't go) then we had crepes and ice-cream for dinner, followed by an evening at the observatory looking at nebulae and clusters. [livejournal.com profile] starry_sigh bounced!

I mentioned to them the tropical low off the coast, and they weren't real happy about that.

And I've known Teddy since the Viatel days. She is one of my oldest online friends.

Well, I´m glad she´s still alive, then. I understand ´net cafes aren´t that easy to come by in the sticks but I would´ve thought Canberra was doable... I´ve used a couple there myself. And it´s not at all hard to find a telephone or respond to an SMS. Yeah, I´m a little annoyed. Thanks for the releiving news and I´m glad it sounds like they´re having a good time.

And yeah, I think Teddy was on Viatel when I first met her online as well. Remember FidoNET (Fight-o-net)? That was the technology. =)
