Armistice Day !

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armistice_Day

"In many parts of the world, people take two minutes of silence at 11:00 in the morning as a sign of respect for the roughly eight million who died in the war, as suggested by Edward George Honey in a letter to a British newspaper though Wellesley Tudor Pole..."

We used to do that in the United Kingdom but then we also used to stand for the National Anthem ("God Save the King") which was played at the end of any cinema screening.

Today I forgot. I am notoriously silent a lot of the time so I feel excused. War isn't something to be remembered.

"War isn't something to be remembered."

I disagree. War absolutely has to be remembered. How can you learn anything from it otherwise? Besides which, it would be a massive disrespect to everybody who's life was ruined by it.

been reading Dan Simmond's Lovedeath, and his grotesquely detailed description of conditions in the trenches. Also Robert Graves' autobiography, with more of the same.

both works should come with a scratch'n'sniff card soaked in Putrescine.

If you haven't already, you may want to consider 'All Quiet on the Western Front'. I read it a few times in high school on my own - a powerful book.
