Drought

Today we go on water restrictions for the first time ever. That rain a few months ago which caused the Talbragar to flood, was the last rain we saw. Fire season is going to be bad this summer.

we're 15" below normal here.
lake nearby (big reservoir) is 5 feet below normal

North Florida was also damned dry.

I blame the polar bears.

That's a brilliant idea! I'd need 2: one on the shower and one on the kitchen sink. Those are my two main hot water places.

I do all my clothes washing in cold water, and the dishwasher is hooked up to the kitchen sink so the Chili Pepper pump would work for both. As for flushing, I'm surprised someone hasn't imported the dual-flush cisterns into the US. You don't need a giant flush every time you go.

The only place I've seen them in the US is at an eco-friendly retreat and happy pagan festival site where I go camping. Local health codes require a certain number of proper toilets for the large volume of festival-goers they have at times, so they went through a lot of effort to track them down. I've been really impressed, and rather annoyed they're not standard for new buildings and the like.


A hundred miles or so around where I live have been on mild water restrictions since mid-spring, and have missed out on our late-summer rainstorms as well. No fire risks here like you guys have, at least, but I'm practically on the Chesapeake Bay and we're running out of water... wtf.

Hmm, any idea if that would have any effect on our winter up here?

(because I remember seeing this really, totally furry caterpillar a while ago and it was so fuzzy you couldn't even see its body, while almost every other time, it was so unfuzzy that you could almost count how many hairs were in each tuft!)

Otherwise, keep a stiff upper lip, and you won't have to iron it for a while!
