(no subject)

It's the opposite of Groundhog Day here, whatever that is called.

Are you sure? I thought Imbolc lined up with Mabon, being the first vs the last festival of the year, and Lughnasadh is the opposite of Beltane...

I woulda suggested Wombat Day, but that's already been taken.

:-)

thought you might.

and inspired more than a little, perhaps, by a certain small wombat of peripatetic inclination, I'd like to humbly submit a small offering I made for [livejournal.com profile] cat_macros...

My cats had similar reactions to the guinea pigs. We used to let the pigs lose on a screened in sun porch during the summer and they'd occasionally boot the cat out of the sunny spot. Cats would give way to something that looked like a furry sausage.

August 2 when the Wombat emerges from his burrow. If he sees his shadow then he knows he got up too early and goes back to bed. Who gives a shit about the winter?

Groundhog... the other Other white meat. };=*)

Happy un-Groundhog's Day, over there.

Considering your location - today would have to be WARTHOG DAY.

I second Wombat Day!:D

[identity profile] dewhitton.livejournal.com 2007-02-02 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
August 1 is Wombat Day. It's the opposite of Groundhog Day.

[identity profile] dewhitton.livejournal.com 2007-02-02 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
as in... the opposite side of the year. And it's August 2.

Woolley Bear Day?

(I can't remember the source, but one older comic I used to read as a kid mentioned that the heavier the fuzz on the woolley bear, the harsher the winter would be)

Fuzzy wuzzy was a bear

You might be on to something... An anti-groundhog would have to:

--> Be active in winter
--> Snooze and live off fat in summer
--> Sleep above ground
--> Go below the surface for food.

I say polar bear! Polar Bear Night FTW?

Actually, a Woolley Bear is a caterpillar that goes dormant during the winter.

I remember where I used to read about it. It was in the B.C. (http://www.creators.com/comics/bc.html) comic, probably one of the B.C. books my parents had when I was a kid.

Clams got legs!

Because it's as far away from the end of the year as groundhog day is from the beginning of the year. Yeah, it's obscure.
