Technically, it's Goonoo Goonoo Forest, but it's part of the Pilliga which is actually further north.

Oh, and the cloud mass it's pushing through is pure smoke.

Just looking at all that smoke puts my sinuses on edge. I can almost feel the sneezing fit approaching. I hope they get it under control and put out soon.

It makes sense, really. Rain can't form without dust to accumulate on. This just happens to have a much higher concentration of particulates and much smaller concentration of water.

Regardless of the tragedy of it, it's extraordinary photography, Batty.

On the other hand, we could take a bunch of meat up there and have some really good smoked ribs...

Have the best

The Bureau of Meterology has a wonderful weather calendar. People submit their photos to a photo competition for inclusion - you should send them some of yours.

And wow, they link to the Cloud Appreciation Society! I never knew there was any such thing!

Wow. And Eeep! Hope you are safe.

Oh and good luck at getting a shot of comet McNaught. It ought to be visible around sunrise and/or around sunset (you'll need to look that up) for you starting from January 15. I missed it here due to clouds. Could turn out to be the brightest comet in human history.
