M24 - Japanese minisub

On May 31, 1942, three minisubs entered Sydhey Harbour to attack shipping. Two of the subs were sunk, but M24 fired two torpedoes, one of which sank the converted ferry HMAS Kuttabul, killing 19 Australian sailors and two Britons before vanishingunder heavy fire. The other torpedo failed to explode.

Sub-Lieutenant Katsuhisa Ban and Petty Officer Namori Ashibe piloted M24 through the Heads into open sea, and vanished.

They were found last month.

Wiki article.

Interesting. It shows that healing has happened, that the Australian government is vehemently protecting the heritage rights of the Japanese soldiers who attacked Australia, and that they want to include the Japanese government in the discussion. There is hope for our world, when what were once bitter enemies can speak equitably and openly for the preservation of such things.

Have the best
