It's legacy software. It was SixApart's answer to LJ before SixApart bought LJ, but even after they did, it was very much the favourite baby of the SixApart people, and they couldn't bring themselves to dump it. So now the twits are running two very similar services in competition with each other both for userbase and for development time, staff, and resources. The whole business is an example of Dumb so rare and pure that it should be preserved in formaldehyde for the edification of future generations.
