Bats - 50% success (NOT Bek-related)

Bek and Coach are fine. Don't panic

Looks like it's time for the learner-flyer broadnosed bats to take to the air. I had two calls this morning; both for juvenile broadnoses.

The first was holding her left wing at an odd angle. It took me an instant of examination over the flashlight to know she'd never fly. Just above her elbow was a massive blood clot and I could see the ends of the upper-arm bone. I had to euthanase her.

The second broadnose has been with the lady since last night. Apparently she heard a soft 'donk' on the window. When she investigated she found a groggy bat sitting on the sill, so she caught it before the cats could, put it in a pillow case and hung it in the bathroom.* There appears to be nothing wrong with Donk** but I will be keeping her for a few days to see if complecations set in.

*This is the proper thing to do. The bathroom is cool and generally dark, and not often visited. Bats don't need to be kept warm.
** Any other name will be considered.

Donk is a perfect name.

Bek's got a fan club? :)

Bek does have a fan club. Many people would be upset if anything happened to her.

Indeed. :) I know I'd be upset; I'm glad to know she's doing well. :)

I like "Donk." It's very evocative. :) I'm sorry to hear about the other bat... I know those are always hard. Take care, and again, thank you for doing the wonderful things you do.

Donk?

I've never seen that movie. Donk was the sound she made when she hit the window.

Poor Batty, poor bat

It's never easy

I've done a bit of animal rehab when I was living on the farm. It's never easy to make the decision to euthanize. Poor little bat! Well, at least it had someone who cared about it taking it out of this world and into the next.

I like the name Donk and I think you should keep it that way.

Sure do miss my bats from the old apartment complex; there don't seem to be any living around my new house. Lovely creatures, excellent company at night, and they eat the mosquitos.

Ever seen Crocodile Dundee 2?

Bad guy: You shoulda got a gun instead of a beer.
Good guy (sitting and sipping fosters casually): I don't need a gun, I got a Donk.
Bad guy: *laughs* A what?
Donk (big guy): *appears and grabs the bad guy's gun away from him from behind* Donk! *punches bad guy out*

It's a perfect name Batty *grins* especially if she's a fiesty one!

You know I did instantly think of Bek. Thanks for the disclaimer. Sorry about the other lil bat :(

Donk is a great name and it keeps with the alphabetical thing!

Wave at Bek for me :)
