Their wings catch the sunlight quite stunningly. If the world had more diurnal bats, I imagine they would take a special vaunted place in our mythologies, as messengers of the sun or sacred living flames or something like that, and children's science books would have to explain that no, bats don't actually glow with their own light like they do in cartoons.

There are depressingly few myths about bats, and most of those are bad myths. All the Good Bat stories are modern.

Whoa, I love the pictures with the sun shining behind the bats, it makes their wings and body structure look incredible!

Very nice! And a great visual aid for discussions. The sunlit ones in the second photo look almost as if they are on fire! The first picture really is excellent. You can see all the basic bone structure, including the pair of enormous thumbs!:D

Wow, nice photography work on capturing the flying ones. It always amazes me just how thin their wings are, and the light shining through them emphasizes it so well.

They're all amazing. Thanks for posting them.

Oh, thank you so much for sharing those! Those pictures are just awe inspiring! I thought hanging out at the bat cave at the Oregon Zoo was a great view until now!

I don't think any Australian zoos have bat caves. Some have nocturnal houses but no bats, or small groups in cages. You only see large numbers in the wild.

Those silhoette shots make me want to be a bat... all those little disadvantages like not being able to stand are nothing when you can stretch out and fly like that. These shots will really help with drawing anthro bats (which now that school is done and I have some life and health issues behind me, I should be able to start doing with gusto).

You know it... I have some story framework too and I think I figured out how to quickly get the look I have in my mind using the tools and skills I have right now... no more waiting for money and time (those won't come for a while more)
