The argument goes that birthrates in developed countries are stable and low, while those in the rest of the world are still high. So if we don't keep churning out good Caucasian children, the Darkie Hordes(tm) will overwhelm us through sheer numbers in a generation or two.

Despite the fact that, well, birth rates in undeveloped countries are plummeting as well, thus making the whole thing irrelevant in the timeframes they're talking about anyway.

The argument's as stupid as it's bigoted, anyway.

[identity profile] claire.livejournal.com 2006-02-14 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yes. I wasn't born here. So they gave me a bit of paper when I became Australian. It's got a kangaroo on it and everything ;)

Hmmm, so they are assuming that the only way to make Christians is for them to be born into a Catholic family? That argument holda bit of weight in that most non-catholic Christians seem to be ex-catholics in many parts of the world. Now on the other hand, how many non-Christians (who are not born into Muslim families) choose to become Muslims? I would hazzard a guess that the percentage is small. If Australia keeps it's tight immagration policies, I do not expect the percentage the various religions/denominations to change much over time.

The racism argument is also one of the seamy underbellies of the abortion-ban movement here. See, all those worthless black welfare queens are breeding like rabbits (funny, those are the same ones who are supposed to be having all the abortions) and if White Folks don't keep up, we'll be swamped in a wave of n****rs and spics before too long. You don't hear it often in the print media, but get into a conversation with a rabid "Right-to-Lifer" and sooner or later it comes out.
