Ping Firefox Gurus

I've updated to Firefox 1.5.0.1

Why is it that pages that used to work under 1.0.7, like Blank Label Comics, no longer work? I see the page but the 3 x 3 navigation icon grid is just a blank. When I disable javascripting I get the icons back, but they're no longer links. The Schlock Mercenary blogunder has vanished from the main page (I can get it by going direct to the blog page). Where it used to be is a big white square. SSDD is a mess, with none of the links visible except for the prev/next ones under the comic.

I have the latest versions of Flash and Scockwave. Any suggestions?

apparently the shlock blogunder was having some Server side javascript issues

as for the other stuff? I dunno, I haven't used Firefox as a primary browser, since well, Ever =8D

I just upgraded tonight myself to 1.5.0.1 and the Blank Label Comics and SSDD are both working fine for me. So I'm not sure what's gone wrong for you.

That's a Flash grid.

I had some flash problem safter upgrading. I found making a new profile, and then manually importing my bookmarks fixed it up.

My old profile was full of a bunch of cruft it didn't like.

Are there any significant improvements in 1.5.0.1? I'm quite happy with 1.0.7, and don't want to have to deal with profiles again. SSDD's too good to lose.

The most important feature in 1.5 is automated update that actually works - it'll grab all those security fixes (such as this 1.5.0.1) automatically without you having to do anything other than tell it 'yeah ok' and let it restart the browser, and it works by downloading a small patch rather than the whole browser all over again. So you don't need to keep track of security holes.

Some other significant improvements apply mainly to web developers, such as SVG support.

Apart from that, there are a number of minor interface improvements like being able to drag tabs around. Not a huge deal, more in the 'might as well' category than in the 'must get this now' category. If you want to stick with 1.0.x you can do that - don't forget to jump ship once they stop releasing security patches for the 1.0 series, though. (That probably won't happen until 2.0 comes out I guess.)

Don't know what to tell you, BLC works fine for me. I did reboot after I installed (shut down for the night actually). Maybe it's a conflict with an extension? Adblock did some bad stuff with Flash a bit ago....

Yeah, I'd suspect AdBlock - I remember having to reconfigure mine after the upgrade. Sadly, I don't remember exactly what it was, something about Javascript, I think.

Good luck!

I just got the 1.5.0.1 autoupdate (from 1.5) and the BLC site + SSDD both appear to render fine (I didn't try the other). Both use Flash for the features you mention.

If you have AdBlock, kill it. The incompetents who write it screwed up royally, and it butchers all browsers. I believe there is a newer version called something else (AdBlock Plus? something like), or you could just pick up FlashBlock and use that in conjunction with the default 'block images from server' functionality.

I seem to recall there *was* some issue with Flash but er... it seems to have gone away, for me at least...

Adblock must be the problem. I'll give that a go.
