Kangaroo CFNAR

Scotty the albino Eastern Grey watches over the food to make sure the younger joeys don't steal any.

All these joeys are orphans in the care of H. There are 8 joeys in this photo. H has 17 in care.

Oscar the red chews the ear of Jasmine the eastern grey.

Jasmine has a steel pin in her left femur. Hopefully she'll recover.

Hrmm. Gotta say the red looks very... grey. Will he change colour as he gets older?
All very cute, must be a fun household!

He's a male, so he'll go very red. Female reds are that grey colour.

Amazing! We have wallabies at our place in Queensland and I'm pleased to say there are several joeys about at this time of the year. Though we don't get to see them so close up!

The joeys I see close-up are almost all orphans through motor vehicle accidents and shootings.

How precious they are. It's easy to see how your job could be really rewarding. Thanks for the visual sharing.

When you see a rehabbed animal go free, it's the best feeling

Is ear-grooming a social behavior for kangaroos? Or was Oscar just like, "oh look, an ear!"

That's just Oscar chewing on ears. He'll chew human ears too if you sit on the floor.

omg. they are so CUTE! want. :)

are joeys difficult to look after?

[identity profile] dewhitton.livejournal.com 2005-09-06 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
oh yeah. They must have lactose-free milk with supplementary vitamins, they have a very low tolerance of temperature changes, and they can get all sorts of illnesses and die at the drop of a hat.

They are cute little fellows. Do you think Scotty's fur will change color as he gets older?

He might go slightly browner away from white, but not much.
