Forced Roadtrip

Sometime in November the company will be forcing me to do a 14 day trip to Italy and the UK. We will be spending 7 days at a factory in Florence learning about vehicle washers, and then travelling to the UK to be taught maintenance and other things. There won't be any time to socialize. I'll be seeing a lot of sites but not many sights.

This is my first trip OS since 1990. I'm a bit happy about it.

You must come visit us!

We'll see. I don't know if I'll have time. It'll be pretty full-on, and my spare time will be spent with friends near Cambridge I've known for many many years and hardly ever see.

It's not a holiday. I need one of those too.

Yeah, I dig the problem.

Still, it would be nice to meet up, even if it's only for an evening. Whereabouts in the UK are you going?

I'll be spending nights at Offord D'Arcy, about half way between Huntingdon and St Neots. I have no idea where the factory is so I can't tell you where I'll be during the day.

Hey, I'm in Cambridge =P

I dig that. I just hate it when I'm being forced to go to interesting places.

Enjoy your trip. If you were headed to my area I'd be good for micro-brews and chat you up.

Well, that's cool!

Even business trips can be a little fun. When I would go to places like LA or San Francisco or whatnot to do installs, I'd still enjoy seeing the sights immediately around the sites, if you know what I mean.

It won't be 100% work. THere are still weekends and such.

WOOT!! Ok it's work not a vacation - but WOOT anyway...

How about making a month long trip to Canada next August, and going on down to DragonCon with the troops?

[identity profile] dewhitton.livejournal.com 2005-08-26 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds like a plan. 8)

Oh, poor you :P being disbatched to Italy and the UK :) I'll bet you manage to see some of the sights even if you don't get to socialize. I hope you'll be able to make a photojournal of your trip like you have the others.

Enjoy!

I'm going to hate Florence, what with all that Rennaisance architecture, art, and Michaelangelo things. Bloody Tuscanny wine and food. sheesh. I suppose I'll have to look at Etruscan ruins, too. I'm really going to get BORED.

The real problem is that we're going in November, which has short days. There won't be much after-work sight-seeing but there will still be weekends to go stupid looking at fine art and medieval buildings.

*whines* I'd trade places with you :) . Florence ought to have some sort of night life, though. I'm certain you'll be able to find some nice little tavern with good food to satisfy your curiosity.

OH, POOR YOU!

And just think of all that pasta you'll be forced to eat, and all the non-chateaux cardboarde wine you'll have to drink, and all the cannoli and tiramisu you can eat! WOE! WOE!

And all the pigeons you'll see skulking about the place.

Makes a person wanna cry 8)

My socks bleed for you. Really, they do:D.

It's going to be awful.

A roadtrip from Australia to Europe would be the stuff of legend.

Just getting the speed up to skip your way to mainland Asia would be something in and of itself.

People used to drive from London to Sydney (taking ferries are required, of course) back in the 60s and 70s. The world was less civilized but strangely safer.
