Cameraless

My camera broke!

The little plastic knob that holds the clip that seals and light-proofs the back flap broke off. A 1mm x 1mm x 5mm piece of plastic has left me without the means to take photos. For the first time since 1980 I am without a camera.

This is serious suckage.

OUCH! Bugger!
And chance of getting it repaired? What about duct tape?

It goes to the camera doc tomorrow, and should be done in a week.

Ha! Duct tape was the first thing that sprang to my mind as well! Next was a "c"-clamp. ^_^

If it was something other than my camera I would have gone for the duct tape.

O U C H !!!

I may be weird (actually there's no debate required, I AM weird) but I usually have two identical or very similar cameras at any time. I usually get the first one new or secondhand, and if I like it after a year or so I can then pick up a "spare" secondhand. I've done this since I was a teenager with the Yashica Minister II 35mm compact (In fact I still have them both although they haven't been used in anger for many years now)

This idiosyncrasy has two advantages. Firstly if you have a spare you tend not to need it.
Secondly, if you do need it you've got the parts... which they don't make any longer.

I think I like my current camera (Fuji S7000) enough to go trawling through the camera shops etc to get a spare of it, but I will give it another couple of months of experimenting, just to make sure.
