Dollar bird

I have just rescued my first dollar bird ever, and I have to euthanase him. Yay.

I'm very sorry to hear that.

Beautiful looking bird. Looks like it ran into the Rainbow Serpent. Is there a colour that isn't in its plumage?

They seem to have one of everything. Under the wing is quite red and fades through oranges to the yellow belly.

I half-expected the picture to be of a weird creature made of money.

If I remember correctly, the name originated because when they were caught, and first sold in England, that was the price they'd go for.

I've seen them here in the States, sold today... or at least in the last 5 years, for about $400 each. I can't recall if they're a bird that mimics sounds, or can actually be taught to speak like parrots, though.

Sorry you had to dispatch one, though. They are lovely birds. *winghugs*
