The speed of light delay isn't that bad, is it? Although, it'd be cool to be talking to someonw and actually have SOL delay as a factor in the conversation. Very science fictiony. :)
A bit of googling suggests that latency on a satellite connection normally runs at ~600ms, compared to ~250ms or less for dial-up, and <50ms for ISDN, cable, ADSL and some wireless technology.
It would depend on if the connection is 2-way satellite, or satellite down/ISDN up. If it is a sat/ISDN combination, he wouldn't have any problems being heard, but would possibly experience minor lag depending on how the downstream is handled.
Prezzactly. And there's all sorts of issues with my specific provider... suffice to say that it's not designed to be shared over a network, and you have to jump through some irritating hoops to make it work. And I *still* haven't gotten FTP (for example) to work on any computer but the one directly hooked to the modem.

If you can't get ADSL you may be eligable for the HIBIS subsidy to get a satellite connection.
