Apparently the new plant "could be a tree." That's all I know.

By the way, have you registered for your Wollemi Pine? They're being released to the public next year.

I read about your friend's discovery yesterday but it was late and so I didn't have a chance to comment. Wow, that is so incredible! There's a tendency to think as civilization spreads that there's "nothing new under the sun" and I find discoveries like this amazing.

I wonder if the wolemi pine would grow here....

But then, Florida has its own share of dinosaur trees. The natural history museum one town over has a living garden composed solely of plants found only in Florida which have been unchanged since the age of the dinosaurs.

Your cousin may have found a new tree? That's incredible. I'd assumed it was something small and easily overlooked. Wow.

I wonder if I could grow a Wollemi Pine here in Denver...

How does Denver compare with the habitat and growing conditions (http://www.wollemipine.com/science.php) listed here?

Well, favorably as far as temperature and soil type goes. But we have very low humidity, and we're high in altitude, which are the two big stumbling blocks for growing most things here; it's not so much that we have big temperature swings (we do) as that we have big temperature swings AND our atmosphere is thin AND we have low humidity.

If I get one, I'd be growing it inside, most likely, so I can control two of those three things. This is why I can grow subtropicals like Arabian Jasmine in my sunroom. But there's nothing I can do about the altitude...

I'm not sure how fast-growing they are, but I think you'll have many years of Potted Dinosaur Tree enjoyment.
