Conservatives won

So the Liberal Party (as the conservatives are called. The liberals are called the Labor Party) is back in power.

The bastards have demonstrably lied to us over all sorts of things, and yet they are voted in with a larger majority. As much as I hate them, they were voted in by a fair ballot. All I can do is shake my head at the majority of Australians who voted for them.

It sucks. Deal with it.

How many major parties does Australia have? With four being a going concern in Canada, the idea of one getting a majority of the vote as well as the seats boggles my mind..

There are 2 major parties: Labor (left-wing liberals) and Liberal (right-wing conservatives.) The minor parties are Greens, Democrats and independents, plus a bunch of fringe, one-issue parties.

The Upper House consists mostly of Liberal, Labor and Independents, while the senate is 50% Liberal, and 50% mostly Labor, with Greens, Democrats making up the rest, except for one seat held by an ultra-right wing Christian party called "Family First." This means the balance of power in the senate is held by a group who thinks Gays are as bad as Witches and should be burned at the stake.

oh, and I forgot to mention the Nationals. They are firmly allied to the Liberals so they might as well be the same party. Nationals make up part of the Liberals vote.
