My design sense side is completely offended and ill, and duking it out with my nostalgic childhood memory side which is going "oh cool, we could work with this." (Actually we usually can, I once solved a problem of a lavander bathroom kit from the mid 70's that didn't involve $1000's in replacing them all)
I can deal (with professional help) with the lavender, but that green kitchen with the coupe peeking through the open door, that's totally beyond rescue there :)
Actually guys.... the two kitchens, as horrible as they appear to be would be a couple of the easiest fixes. Or at least the cheapest with a fair bit of elbow grease. The really TOUGH jobs are the bathrooms that are done all in that totally obnoxious tile.
1 Horsebarn kitchen. Ok firstly there needs to be a WALL built between the barn and the kitchen. Fortunately interior walls are pretty simple stuff.
All that green wood on the ceiling and back splashes needs to be stripped down and stained / varnished a much lighter colour. Either a natural light pine, OR a slightly off white, giving a Victorian panel type finish. Cupboard doors stipped and lightened up. If one goes with the antique white panelling look, I'd cut out the centres and fill em with etched or frosted glass.
Similarly with the other kitchen the only REAL problem is the connection between the kitchen and the garage. Time for another interior wall here. And a fresh choice of colours. Tone down the white a notch, get rid of the obnoxious green. Maybe go with all white and add a cobalt accent with a tiled countertop (NO NO NOT THE WHOLE ROOM!!), and some terracotta floor tiles.... a touch of yellow here and there, and it could have a very nice mediterranian feel.
Really the only BIG problem with these rooms is their inappropriate connection to another function, and thier appalling colour schemes. These are easily fixed. No major fixtures to be replaced.
I like the green ceiling kitchen but would have different cupboards. And I love all the bidets! I wish USAians were as fond of bidets as Europeans are; they're useful.
Talk about 70's plywood rec room chic! Some of it reminds me of the loud interiors found in those long heavy sausage shaped RV's! *scary*:D! Eurobad indeed. In America some of those looks were trendy at one time iirc:D.
reminds me of every 70's and 80's suburban basement rec room in Canada.... and we ALL had one. (Think Mike Meyers in Wayne's World which was based entirely on that premise.... 70-80's Scarborough Ontario)
Actually, a lot of those rooms would become perfectly livable with some combination of a new paint job, different carpet, and/or reupholstery; the main problem with most of the ones I looked at was an appalling misuse of color. I might do a detailed critique over in my journal, just for S&G.
