The first stage of the program is to extend a fibre backbone from Lithgow to Orange in 2004-05. Under stage two the backbone will continue through to Dubbo in 2005-06. The total cost of both stages will be almost $11 million.

So Dubbo will be on the fiber-optic backbone by 2006.

The rest of the world will be fiber to lounge-room by then. Living in The Bush is losing its appeal.

They are doing that over here as well but only new houses will get fibre from street to front door.

Mind you, the UK is getting rid of the PTSN system. We're moving over to the IP system at a nice cost of £3 billion. UK billion, not small US version. So that be. £3,000,000,000,000. A lot of money that. :D
