Bat L

This afternoon Duncan The Vet handed me a pillow case containing 8 grams of growling anger. She is a broadnosed bat. I can't see anything wrong with her, but she had some mites in her fur that you see on bats who aren't well enough to groom properly. I don't think she's been feeding herself properly judging by the way she scarfed down a dozen meal worms.

And so Lucretia enters my life.

welcome Lucretia, may your stay be short, joyful and healthful.

A person can contain a bat in a pillow case?

MV told me a story of a Batman.

I just dropped by your lj to see for myself.

Wow

She's the size of a large mouse so a pillow case was way more than she needed. Right now she's sleeping on a strip of cloth hanging in a modified cat tent.

Mako's right, pictures pretty please.

Cept, about the pillow case, a bat would fit, but not try to fight her way out of the case, bite or something?

Is the tent open? I mean if she wanted to and were able to, could she just leave? That's the goal - yes?

The tent is about 12cu.inches in size, with a zipper in one side. It gives the bat stretching and flapping room they don't get in a pillow case. When it's time to go I just hang the tent outside with the zip open.

All a bat needs is a cool dark place to hang and they're happy. They seem to like the pillow cases.

Binkey is my Stunt Bat when I demonstrate the correct method of catching a microbat.

Cool, sounds like this girl has a good chance for a full recovery, unlike her Roman name sake.

8 mighty grams eh? ;-)

Any chance for a photo or too, assuming she doesn't try to eat the camera of course ;-)

CYa!

Photos will be coming!

After the Wagga trip. If I can't let her go before then I'll have to find a bat-sitter.

I was thinking Borgia, but maybe the spelling is different?

Good luck, Lucretia! You're a very lucky bat already, to have Den to take care of you.

Yay! The bats are returning to Dubbo!:D

Go Lucretia!

Is the next bat going to be called Andrew Eldritch?:D *dodge*

(Sisters of Mercy joke)

Well, unless it's female in which case it can be called Patricia Morrison. :)

The bats are always here, they just haven't needed my help. 8)
