What to do?

I am in a quandry. Tomorrow is the day of the Wellington Vintage Fair, which will be full of old machinery and steam engines, all restored to working condition.

But, tomorrow is the first Formula 1 race.

In Wellington they'll have traction steam engines, old tractors, hot air engines, and early internal combustions engines.

But, the first Formula 1 race.

Tomorrow Wellington will host the world's largest gathering of steam-powered motor cars, all in working order.

But... Formula 1.

Steam.

Wot no video?

[identity profile] dewhitton.livejournal.com 2004-03-05 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Videoing a race is silly. I prefer to watch it live.

I was going to say don't you only get it delayed anyhow, but I guess for the Aussie GP you won't do :> Still, fair is a better option, IMO, if you're into that sort of thing.

Tape the formula one racing. Go to the fair. Those old machines are totally awesome and you can take pictures. You can rewind the tape and watch the formula one racing when you get home.. It's a total guys day!!! :)

I'd go to the Vintage Fair, after all, we all know that Michael Schumacher is going to win the world championship anyway.

NO YOU LIE! I have the Saussages Of Doom to wave at him. "CRASH YOU BASTARD!"

[identity profile] canisrufus-uk.livejournal.com 2004-03-05 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
heh, I don't want him to win, but short of cutting his legs off and making him race in a golf cart I don't see anyone stopping him. Still, the qualifing is on right now, we can always hope he explodes, or there's a freak metiorite strike or something.

Well, if McLaren gets the new chassis rolling, and Kimi doesn't have as many DNFs...

Go to the fair, there's plenty of formula 1 racing on the cards, only one chance to see fabulous steaming things (er, which if its held in a farmer's field like the last one I went to, might also refer to the cowpats as well as the engines ::sigh:: )

I vote you go to the Formula 1 Steam Powered Fair Races. Simple, no?

You blokes would probably like the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix (http://www.pittsburghvintagegrandprix.com/) very, very much.

Schwing! Hell yes I'd love to watch that :-D Great fun seeing the old iron hot lapping in anger.

This Vintage Grand Prix is, reportedly, one of the largest in the country and is run on a course that can only be described as "torturous." Cars have been totalled, and racers have acually died in this event (though not many).

It's run in Pittsburgh's Schenley Park (http://www.city.pittsburgh.pa.us/cp/maps/schenley_park_map.html), though I don't know the exact route. Keep in mind that the roads shown on the referenced map are also all on a hillside....

STEAM!

Give me steam
And how you feel to make it real
Real as anything you've seen
Get a life with this dreamer's dream

Steam!!!

F1 is just overgrown sewing machines zooming around in circles.

That IS a dilemma!

I'm going to have to tape the race this weekend, as I will be away.

I kinda vote for the vintage stuff - the F1 would be expen$ive.

Although I can see where the excitement would be at the race, being in one spot there wouldn't to me be as much fun as seeing the multi-cam views on video, even though there's something about being there "live".

You'll probably have more fun at the vintage meet as it would be more "hands on" and the vintage machinery lives.
F1 cars are neat machines, but they have no soul.

Go Vintage!

Schumacher smashes record to take pole (http://www.shropshirestar.com/sport/motorsport/publish/article_13841.shtml)

Go see the Steam Batty, Shumi's a shoe in and the F1 race will be for second place (as usual :)

Yeah, I'm not going to watch it live... I can almost predict the result... 1. MS, 2. Jarno Trulli, 3. Ralph S. Not worth watching live.

[identity profile] wyrm.livejournal.com 2004-03-07 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
OK, so I thought they wouldn't have RB come second as it would look to obvious. Ho hum.
