Indeed. And genetic engineering plays a starring role.

But the mass drivers of The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress will be how we do it, even if a penal colony is not why we do it.

I don't suppose they took into account the fact that Heinlin wrote those books before most of that technology was readily available? Heinlin was ahead of his time on many ideas, which is often what gives his novels a contemporary yet retro feel and contributes to the timelessness of the storeis.
