Tawny Frogmouth

Head injury caused by magpie attack. He had a scalp injury and I could see the skull through the cut. He was rather subdued when I picked him up, as you would expect, but 3 months R&R at the Owl Lady's farm fixed him, and he was released into the bush.

He's a "young adult" ie almost fully grown. And the adults do look this floofy and big-mouthed. This is why they're called "frogmouths." I don't know where the "tawny" comes into it; they're all shades of grey.

It's funny how you get used to the weirdness when you see a lot of it about. Frogmouths are cute but not weird to me.
