Archaeologists excavating the route of a planned motorway near Ypres in Belgium have uncovered a series of trenches very little changed from the day they were abandoned at the end of World War I. From the BBC

Ah yes, Ypres is a rather famous WWI site. It is the site of the First use of poison gas in WWI (http://www.firstworldwar.com/weaponry/gas.htm). While the French and Germans had already lobbed tear gas at one another, the second battle of Ypres was the first use of Chlorine in war.
