Old Telly

Why are so very few classic Australian television shows making it to DVD? Where is The Magic Boomerang? Spyforce? Phoenix 5? Alvin Purple? King Arthur And The Square Knights Of The Round Table?

I wonder what the MPAA was watching when they rated Athur. It's a kid's cartoon.

A handful of episodes of Arthur made it to video, but there's no dvd listed. Listen to King Arthur's tune here

I want my old shows, dammit!

I didn't even know King Arthur And The Square Knights Of The Round Table was an Australian production! And yes, that rating is...bizarre!

Totally Oz. Arthur was voiced by John Mellion.

Probably because the companies that produce DVDs (I stand corrected on the spelling) are not normally based in Australia. There's something of a kerfuffle at the moment about the effect the proposed US-Australia "Free Trade Agreement" would have on local content. American farmers aren't too keen about Australian imports. Some in the Australian media aren't too keen on a watering down of Australian content laws which would possibly follow from such an agreement.

It's also true that from the perspective of overseas producers Australia is a very small market and unless there is local initiative little will happen. There are seemingly moves to re-open cinemas in country towns with the intent of screening local content but I didn't take down information on this.
