Sacred Kingfisher

This must be the Year Of Poking Holes In Den. Just when the echina scratches and owl holes heal up, I collect a sacred kingfisher. Why are none of these creatures happy to see me? He objected vigorously to my examination and pecked a few more holes into my hand. Luckily he's only as big as a starling, but the beak is sharp.

There is nothing wrong with the bird, he's simply exhausted after his flight from New Guinea. Nothing a night of R&R in a hospital box can't fix. He's in there now with a dish of water and a bowl of meal worms. The trick now is to avoid looking at and disturbing him. He's cute!

Except for the sharp bit, of course.
