Eudora help

any Eudora 5.1 users out there? I need to know how to make the message preview window dock. At the moment it's a floating window. the little "maximize' button doesn't do it, and I hate floating windows.

Hmmm, I think that's normal, that's certainly the way it looked on my system, before I went back to The Bat, since Eudora was screwing up on some things

Up on the title bar it used to say "Eudora - [In]" and the message pane filled the whole window as a full screen. there was no other title bar.

By the way, don't bother with Eudora 6. It adds nothing extra unless you pay for it, and it insists on dumping everything in windows/application data/qualcomm/Eudora and I can't change it without generating an error, even at installation.

Click on the Maximise button on the In window.

I love Eudora - used it for many, many years - just wish I could find something as simple and efficient for Linux.

nope. That does nothing. I can still grab the "In" title bar and drag it around. I want to get rid of that title bar to maximize the reading area.

by the way, I tried v6 today and wasn't real impressed. It wants to scatter its diectories all over the place. The *.mbx and associated directories and files ALL go into /windows/application data/qualcomm/eudora and the dirctory I WANT it to go into (ie c:/eudora) only holds the .exe .ini and some .dll files.

NOT HAPPY. I tried to force it to into c:/eudora/ and the installation barfed. Underwhelmed.

nope. That does nothing.
That's odd - maximizing the In window should get rid of the bar.

Do you have other windows open (within Eudora)? I used to have In and Out open, then use Windows->Tile Horizontal to keep them tidy.

Have you tried closing the In window and re-opening it? Shouldn't behave any differently, I know, but this is Windows!

(We've got v5.2 on the Win2k laptop.)

Tried all that. I like to see the whole window so prefer not to tile or cascade.

It's like the maximise button has lost its function. Hmm... looks like I need a reinstall, and I don't have the installer.

5.2 isn't easy to find - this (http://www.freestuffland.com/Eudora5.2.exe) is about the only non-v6 executable I could find.

Ta! I'm getting it now.

I actually got 6 running with no problems, but I don't know how long that will last. I'll grab the old version Just In Case.

(6 still didn't fix that annoyance. It's not really a problem.)

Try Kmail. We used it for ages, but had to go back to Eudora because Linux don't support my wireless modem yet.

I think it is better than Eudora - the filters are better and you can get SpamAssassin which is wonderful.

I'm using Sylpheed (http://sylpheed.good-day.net/), which looks a lot like Kmail. It's OK but I like the fact Eudora kept the mail in plain text MBX files, so I could grep them. (Yes, I have *NIX tools on the Windows box!)

Eudora can use SA too.

Weird.. I use 5.1 and when i hit the maximise button mine doesn't have the title bar at all.. I couldn't get it to do what yours is doing, apart from rezing the unmaximised window manually, then it floated like that.

Did you try right-clicking the toolbar, then unchecking it in the drop-down menu?
