Graduation Day: from Puggle School to Big School

Today I handed Rexie over to her new carer. She will be housed in a much larger cage now, one 3feet wide x 3 feet high x 10 feet long. The floor is a mix of sand, potting mix and wood chips about 6" deep. Rexie will spend her days Outside, but for a week she'll spend nights Inside. Soon she'll be outside all the time learning secret Echidna business, such as digging, hiding, and termite foraging. By mid September she will be ready to go bush.

My bathroom feels empty without the cage in the corner and there is a vacant place in the freezer where her food used to be.

The Rampaging Puggle has left the building.

Awww. Well, while I'll miss the puggle updates (although not nearly as much as I'd guess you'll miss the puggle!) you oughta be proud of a job well done. Having read that echidnas can live up to 40 (is this right?) I'm sure Rexie will be out rampaging through the bush for a long time. Go, Rexie!

[identity profile] dewhitton.livejournal.com 2003-08-10 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
I am rather pleased with how things went. I'll be the one taking her into the bush for release so I'll be there at the end. Photos to come when that happens.

In captivity 40 years would be possible. In the wild, who knows.

Would an Echidna fit into the Wombat Tarot? 8)

For you (and Rexie!), I'll find a way to get an echidna in there!

Byebye Rexie!
Hope she hasn't been left with a complex which makes her think she's a Dog or a Human.

*laugh*

[identity profile] ionotter.livejournal.com 2003-08-10 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Animals raised by humans *never* think they are humans.

They *know* for a fact that they are better than us, and we were only their servants while they were otherwise indisposed.

Especially lizards.
Oh no, I mean cats. So easy to confuse those two...
The rule is: one's covered in fur, the other's not.

[identity profile] dewhitton.livejournal.com 2003-08-10 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
That won't happen. She is quite happy to think of everything else as weird echidnas.

[identity profile] haggis-bagpipes.livejournal.com 2003-08-10 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
Well, you've done damn well for a weird echidna.

Good on ya, mate!

[identity profile] ionotter.livejournal.com 2003-08-10 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, I've got some stuff I need to send you. Can you email me your current addy? ionotter at flex dot com.

Weyrd.....I mean weird echidnas huh? You did a good job!:)

Hopefully Scruffy and Polly won't miss the nottadog to much. And Scruffy can no rest easy, assured his good-oh's aren't endangered.

Just think, soon she'll be busy with a puggle of her own:D.

Polly has already had a sniff around the room and seemed happy the spiney-dog was gone. Then she discovered the flying-dog in the tent and is rather unhappy again. It squeeked at her.

[identity profile] valkyrwench.livejournal.com 2003-08-10 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! Don't forget pictures of the release. You done good, kid.

[identity profile] dizzdvl.livejournal.com 2003-08-10 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
Ya did good!

Now Rexie when Rexie is out in the wilderness at some point she will be doing something bad and will have a fleeting BAD DOG moment. Then she will realize she's free and keep doing it! :)

your ankles, I wonder, might tingle in memoriam to the Golden Age of the Rampage...?

Yayyy! *waves after Rexie*
